FREE nationwide virtual coding competition for young innovators aged 5 to 15 years!

At STEM Birds, we believe kids can be powerful changemakers. This year, we are challenging Australia’s young minds to combine their tech skills, creativity, and design thinking to help save our native wildlife. Are you ready to use technology to educate, inspire, and protect our unique environment?
competition streams (Aged 5 - 15)

Find the perfect stream for your age and skill level

Scratch Jr Animation

Task: Create a short animation showing an Australian animal’s habitat, safety journey, or rescue story.

Submission: A maximum 3-minute video of the child explaining their project and showing their block sequencing on YouTube.

Scratch Coding

Task: Build an interactive Scratch game, educational story, quiz, or simulation (e.g., an "Animal Survival Game").

Submission: Publish your project on Scratch and submit the project link.

Tinkercad 3D Design

Task: Design a 3D model that helps protect an Australian endangered species (e.g., a “Nesting Box,” “Wildlife Crossing,” or “Water Station”).

Submission: Publish and share your Tinkercad project public link.

Python Turtle Programming

Task: Write a Python text-based program with visual Turtle graphics (e.g., a "Bushfire Escape Challenge" interactive visual poster).

Submission: Create and run your project on Pickcode and submit the shareable project link.

This competition is all about student innovation! While parents and teachers are highly encouraged to help with research, brainstorming ideas, and learning concepts, all submitted code, animations, and designs must be created entirely by the student.
